Living your Dream

Meet your Team

When you dream of traveling to a certain destination or region, what is the drive behind your dream?

Waterburg Safaris was founded by Thula Manzini, a qualified professional and licensed Safari/ Tour Guide. Born and bred in Ntabazinduna Communal lands next to Bulawayo in Zimbabwe, and coming form grassroots of being a herdboy, Thula joined the hospitality industry, initially as a grounds man/ gardener, became waiter, barman; eventually becoming the Food and Beverage Manager and later Operations Tour Guide when he switched over to travel business. Thula’s passion to become a safari guide was ignited by the beautifully coloured birds that he used to see when doing his garden duties at a luxury camp where he was employed. In one evening he was found by the Chief Guide showing and explaining to resident clients some of these birds. The Chief Guide then invited him to explain more about what he has observed on these birds. Whilst Thula did not know what the name of these birds were in English but in local language, it is the way he explained about them that he was immediately invited by the Chief Guide to train as a safari guide and since then he has never looked back.
His passion for the wildlife coupled with the sense of adventure and enthusiasm for eco-tourism then persuaded him to cross from the hospitality sector to safari and travel business. Thula’s immense knowledge of the region, passion for wildlife and natural landscapes, spiced with his love for the rich divergent cultures and history makes him the ideal person to guide you through any Southern African safari trip.

Most Memorable Moments on Tour
Witnessing a pride of 21 lions pulling down 2 buffalos and a calf in Hwange National Park in Zimbabwe- breath taking sighting.
When I saw 3 leopards together in Sankuyo Community Trust land in the Khwai region adjacent to Moremi Game Reserve in Botswana- one of the rare occasions.

Experience: He has been working in Southern Africa for more than a decade and has developed a true passion for Africa, its people and the wildlife!
Favourite African Destination: I love all the countries I work in as each country has something special! If I would have to choose one then I would have to say Namibia because of its sheer beauty and contrast and the warmth of the locals!
Most memorable moment on tour:  I was on tour through Namibia with a group of 6 clients. The day was a very hot one in the Etosha Game Reserve in the Northern Part of Namibia. We were watching a pride of lions at a waterhole called Leeubron and seeing that the sun was about to set we had to make our way back to our rest camp, Okaukuejo. The lion sighting on its own was a sight to remember but on our way back, the sky turned bright orange from the reflection on the dust particles in the sky. Far off in the distance we saw a commotion - only to discover that it was a group of black jackals of about 15 individuals eating a springbuck. This might sound savage but the contrasting colours and very unusual sighting brought back home both the harshness and beauty of this wonderful continent I work on.
